Temporary Iraqi Gov. Council decided practically in closed session to change the civil law. Karl Grobe from "Frankfurter Rundschau" reported, based on Iraqi mass media, that this will be a disadvantage to the women. This way the now leading Shiites in the Gov. Council got through with their ideas. With the "Decree No 137" the civil law from 1959 was cancelled. Now instead of this the Islamic Right is ruling, were polygamy, "marriage for time" and divorce on cast out is allowed.
From now on divorced women this way get no more maintenance, but only separation compensation for three month.
These serious changes of family right, which old version had been inspirited in some cases by Islamic Right itself until now, are quite similar to the situation in Egypt or in Iran.
This is a reactionary roll back for women and girls, because now the relation to the men gets worse and they are now the loosers of the liberation from Saddams regime.
Against Islamists and terror
But our position, that it had been a liberation is still right, because now it is possible (and urgent) to fight politically against the reactionary patriarchs under the leadership of Ayatollah Ali Sistani to push back their political influence.
This new development shows, that it is not right to turn the resistance against the American, British and other occupying forces. In contrary it is needed to turn it against the reactionary, Islamic patriarchs, which want to abuse the democratic change to get benefit for men's world on disadvantage of women.
Who's walking at the Islamic processions? They are (nearly) all men, because in the eyes of the god fanatics the woman is seen as unclean, as property of man, as a covered minor matter and as a working subject of man. (please look at our article:"Die Frauen und der Islamismus")
This reactionary human image can only be broken and put in minority through a humanist, anti-clerical enlightenment in the Arabic World.
Left "Soli" with fascists
The secular (not-religious), democratic powers in Iraq now have to defend themselves against the political offensive of Islamists. Western "lefts" carry on with tolerance and acknowledgement on a so-called Iraqi "resistance". This position isn't acceptable any more. In fact this means a solidarity with fascist terror groups who murder ruthless to enforce the chaos. This means "left" solidarity with Islamic fascists, which fight against the USA, the western world, Israel and women's and children's rights. (mak)
